I've decided to start a blog in order to share stories and information in my upcoming adventures, and also, to practice writing in general. Two things you should know: the first is I sometimes ramble, second is I'm not an amazing writer.
Now that that is out of the way, I'll start from the beginning.
My name is Magan, I am a 23 year old college graduate, and on Monday morning I am getting on a plane to go teach English in South Korea for a year.
WHAT?!?! Honestly, it still doesn't feel quite real yet. I've always been a little adventurous, and I've always wanted to teach. So, teaching overseas has always been in the back of my mind as a possibility. However, it was not always something that thought about seriously, until a few months ago.
In August of 2013, I started my student teaching internship, the last step I needed to take in acquiring my B.S in Elementary Education. However, my plan for after graduation was not initially to go teach overseas. That's when God stepped in. I had my own plan for my life, and God apparently had a different plan. In a matter of seconds, God took my plan and said "Nope, that's not it." After the shock, I then decided to ask God what His plan was. A lot of my prayers went exactly like this:
"Hey God, I'm willing to do whatever you want me to. I do have one request, lets do something adventurous together!"
So then I start looking at programs all over the world that would set me on the path to teach overseas. I just felt drawn to South Korea. I eventually put in an application at Korvia Consulting to teach English in the Public school system there. They have helped me through every step of the process, and obtaining all of the tedious paperwork.
In December, I graduated Cum Laude at Athens State University; and in January, I was offered an official position to teach in Jeollabuk-do. Now, in February, I am just a little over a day away from getting on a plane and flying to South Korea.
I have to say, I would not have gotten this far without an amazing amount of support, love, and encouragement from family and friends! I have been blessed with the best people in my life! Thanks so much!
Now you have a very brief story of where I am about to go and how I got this far! Knowing my klutzy, outgoing, crazy self, there should be some interesting stories. So this will be filled with updates and stories along the way for the large amount of people who have asked "are you going to start a blog?!" This is for all of you!!!
I hope you enjoy the stories as much as I will! :)
